SUZUKI GSX-8R

The Suzuki GSX-8R is the faired sibling of the GSX-8S a middleweight sportbike built around Suzuki’s 776cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin rather than a screaming inline-four. With a 270-degree crank, dual balancers, and peak figures of about 82 hp at 8,500 rpm and 78 Nm (57.5 lb-ft) at 6,800 rpm, the engine is defined by midrange punch and a V-twin-like character more than peak power. Power arrives early, stays linear, and is easy to use on the road. A six-speed gearbox, slip-and-assist clutch, and standard bidirectional quickshifter keep shifts clean.
Suzuki aimed the 8R at riders who want sportbike looks and handling without cramped supersport ergonomics. Clip-ons sit higher than a GSX-R’s, the seat is a usable 810 mm (31.9 in), and the steel-tube chassis with Showa SFF-BP inverted forks and a preload-adjustable Showa shock is composed on broken pavement as well as in corners. Dual 310 mm discs with Nissin radial four-piston calipers and ABS provide strong, predictable stopping. Three ride modes and three-level traction control cover commuting, touring, and spirited riding. Curb weight is a claimed 205 kg (452 lb). Fuel capacity is 14 litres.

On track the 8R has already proved competitive. Homologated for MotoAmerica Twins Cup from 2024, it took early wins at (Road Atlanta, a Brainerd double) and remains a front-runner against the Aprilia RS 660 and Yamaha YZF-R7. In 2025 winning the Britain’s Pirelli National Sportbike title on an 8R. In 2026 M4 ECSTAR Suzuki riders have scored wins and 1-2 finishes, including Mid-Ohio. Europe also runs a dedicated GSX-8R Cup, with a Daytona Twins Cup wildcard as the prize. Torque, a usable chassis, and growing race-kit support (cams, electronics, chassis parts) make it a genuine twins-class contender, not just a street bike with a fairing.
Owners commonly add a blipper or tune, exhaust, brakes, levers, and protection. Shared architecture with the 8S and V-Strom 800DE keeps parts support strong. The GSX-8R is a practical middleweight that works as a daily sport-tourer and still earns results on Sunday.
